Cloud-based software is a relatively new entrant to the software market. We all have used software that was stored on a disk, and which we then had to upload onto our PC or network server before we could use it. Every year or so, we had to buy a new, updated version and upload it over the old version. Since the internet has become so quick and relatively cheap, software companies are now increasingly hosting software in a safe environment, and all you need is a username and password to access this software. This is quite brilliant, because you know that all your work is safely stored on an off-site server, so if your PC crashes or your laptop is stolen it is much safer than before! Since you don’t need to download anything, we are putting Cloudware into the ‘Virtual’ category, instead of the ‘Digital’ category.
